Penelope Trunk on her blog, the Brazen Careerist, has some good tips for positioning your career when facing a potential recession
Her top four tips are:
- Specialize
- Do something great - Now!
- Consider graduate school (I would add to that finish up your 150 hours & get that CPA License!)
- Focus on the quality of work and quality of mentoring
You can read her full post here
I would add to that, expand your network by getting involved in your Professional Association, like the MACPA. Recent research has shown that people who get involved in their Profession through Associations like the MACPA, make more money (52% on average), are happier in their jobs, more successful, and overall happier people. Isn;t this the perfect antidote for the recession blues?
See our post on Where Winners Meet... to read about the benefits of professional associations to your career.
To get involved join our New / Young Professionals Network or if you are a student thinking about a career in Accounting, join our Tomorrow's CPA group (it is free!) - check out our new TCPA blog and join the conversation...
