There is no plan!
Get into your career and start working to add value to your employer. Your career will start to show up as you find the things that you truly enjoy.
That was my message to graduating accouting students at Salisbury University & Loyola University last week. That line is from a terrific little book every student shoud have. It is the Adventures of Johnny Bunko - The Last Career Guide You'll Ever Need by Daniel Pink.
Here are the Six Career Lessons Nobody Bothered To Tell You:
- There is no plan, no set path
- Think strengths not weaknesses
- It's not about you (it's about adding value)
- Persistence trumps talent
- Make excellent mistakes (or I like to say, fail forward)
- Leave an imprint (make a difference, and contribute the best you can)
Here is the trailer to the book:
And a terrific and creative recap in a presetation by presentation guru, Garr Reynolds of Presentation Zen. And of all things, the hero of the story, Johnny Bunko is an accountant, struggling to find his way in his new career. Buy this book and tell me what you think?

absolutely love the suggestions on focusing on strengths. we can push much further in our CPA careers by doing this instead of trying to improve on weaknesses
